I had fun painting this girl. I found the perfect background print on tissue paper and adhered it to professional-grade sanded pastel paper before applying washes of blue and green acrylic paint.  I left the pastel paper exposed for the dog’s head and foreground. I absolutely love painting black dogs in pastel, as all the gleaming highlights can be depicted by using the colors of the animal’s environment, in this case, greens and blues. And those eyes!
